CGC Grading
If you want to maximize the potential value of your collectible item, then having it authenticated and given a numerical grade based upon the condition by a reputable 3rd party authentication company is the best option for you.
You may have heard or read about newsworthy sales of baseball or Pokemon cards over the past several years. The reason these cards can get the largest hammer prices at auctions and be exposed to worldwide bidding is not only the demand for those cards, but the fact that they have been graded by reputable 3rd party authentication and grading companies.
Certified Guaranty Company (CGC®), the world’s leading comic book certification and grading company, has added concert posters, handbills and postcards to its menu of collectibles grading services. The expansion enables collectors of these rare pieces, which promoted the live music of legendary bands and performers, such as the Beatles, the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin, to enjoy the same accurate, consistent and impartial grading that CGC has delivered to the comic industry since 1999.
CGC currently accepts submissions from some of the most highly coveted vintage poster series, including Mike King’s Maximum Plunder, Bill Graham, Family Dog, Grande Ballroom, Neon Rose, Vulcan Gas Company, as well as posters featured in the Art of Rock. Submissions are also accepted for the modern series Bill Graham Presents, New Fillmore and MoonAlice. NOTE: If the poster artist is not Mike King in our collection, CGC will not grade the poster, they only grade the posters listed above.
CGC employs a 10-point grading scale for concert posters that is based on the industry standard the company established for comics, magazines, photos and lobby cards. The CGC grade appears on one of a number of colored labels, which differentiate a CGC Universal Grade from CGC grades assigned with any qualifiers or special considerations, including conservation, restoration and signed pieces.
CGC-graded concert posters are sealed in tamper-evident holders of a heavy gauge archival plastic. The fully transparent front and back allows complete viewing of the poster and protects from any improper handling or soiling.
To date, the only company that grades the authenticity of vintage concert posters is CGC, Certified Guaranty Company, who also grade trading cards, comics, magazines, video games, autographs and other collectibles.
